Although it is still over two months to Christmas, maybe now is the time to start thinking about that special time – and that special meal, the Christmas dinner. At TopMeadow Farm we have been planning ahead for the festive season and, as you might expect, we have some really delicious treats for our customers.
Top of the list is a traditional Christmas turkey. Of course for those who want something different, we shall have pheasants, geese, dry aged ribs of beef, hams, legs of pork on the bone and many other special cuts. But we wanted to offer something special, and that is why we have selected locally farmed, free-range Norfolk bronze turkeys.
Our Norfolk bronze turkeys are so very different from the frozen supermarket turkey! The Norfolk bronze turkeys are a different breed. They have been reared slowly on a traditional local farm, feeding on natural food, roaming freely, foraging, perching on branches naturally. All of this brings out the sweet, delicate flavour of the bird’s succulent brown and white meat. It will remind you of those traditional Christmas dinners of childhood!
Turkeys are native to the Americas, but are a relative of the grouse and pheasant, so can have an almost gamey flavour. Wild turkeys were introduced into Britain in the sixteenth century and grew in popularity over the years, but it was only in the last century that they replaced the goose as the traditional Christmas favourite. We think traditionally farmed Norfolk bronze turkeys are the best available, and we shall be taking advance orders from the end of this month. So for that special family festive feast, let’s talk turkey!
